My name is Lynn Reedy. Mia Nipote was founded in 2006 by my husband Kevin and I. We had just retired from long and successful careers in Silicon Valley and loved Pleasanton and the Livermore Valley wine country. The home we purchased was a beautiful property and included a hillside vineyard that we fell in love with. We met with the viticulturists that had planted the vines and they passed along their excitement about the great potential of this vineyard to produce a high quality wine that would give us great joy and new passion to pursue.
These viticulturists continued to do the farming for us for the next ten years and also helped us select an excellent wine maker; Chad Alexander from Napa Valley. Chad made all our Cabernet Sauvignon up through 2016 and our Sauvignon Blanc up through 2018. At the very beginning, Steven Mirassou (of Steven Kent Winery) reached out to us to offer help and advice along our new path. We were very surprised and gratified and took advantage of this unexpected help and a new friendship was born.
Starting in 2017, Steven agreed to take on the farming and the winemaking for that vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon. He became the winemaker for the Sauvignon Blanc with the 2019 vintage. Going forward Steven and his partner Nancy Castro will be be running all the day-to-day operations of Mia Nipote. Kevin and I will continue in a Founders role to host some private wine tastings and the semi annual wine club parties. So now instead of having to work at the parties, Kevin and I will be socializing with all the friends we've made through our wonderful Mia Nipote Wine Club!
With a vision of producing the highest-quality Cabernet Sauvignon, we’ve ensured that every step of the process is handled with meticulous care and no detail has been overlooked. We started with the best clones and rootstock suited to the terrain and climate, and implemented a “V” trellis system to ensure speckled light on the fruit.
Every year we hand harvest by block based on fruit maturity. We crush the whole berry, and perform frequent pumpovers to ensure optimal richness of color and complexity of flavor. The wine is then casked for 20-24 months in the finest French Oak barrels available. After aging and prior to bottling, the different lots of wine (clones) are blended to create a more complex wine that represents the terroir of the Lencioni Vineyard and the unique Mia Nipote taste.
